Knight believes in the value of giving back to the communities in which we live and work. Our employees not only give financially, but also give of their time and energy through mentoring and other volunteer programs.
Knight focuses our giving on children’s causes, local organizations and environmental issues. We also encourage individual charitable giving by supporting causes important to our employees.
As a firm, Knight is a contributor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, The Ronald McDonald House and Autism Speaks. We help the local community of Jersey City by giving to St. Anthony High School, The York Street Project and other neighborhood groups. We are also committed to communities where we have regional offices by helping organizations such as Big Brothers, Big Sisters of New York City and Massachusetts Bay and The Special Olympics of Connecticut.
Below are some other recent examples of Knight’s charitable giving:
- Beginning in April of 2009, Knight’s Institutional Equities group partnered with Charity Water. For each share that an institution traded on Knight’s electronic platform in 2009, Knight made a donation to fund sustainable water projects in developing nations. - In May of 2009, our Greenwich, Connecticut employees, donated a portion of their monthly earnings to the New Haven HomeOwnership Center's Rescue Fund. The Rescue Fund gives assistance to families throughout Connecticut who have been impacted by the mortgage crisis. Approximately 40 families in danger of losing their homes will receive assistance through the success of this campaign.
- In November of 2009, Jersey City employees raised funds for the Community Food Bank of New Jersey during the first “Knight Gives Back” voluntary charitable campaign.
- Following the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti on January of 2010, Knight made a donation to AmeriCares Haiti Emergency Relief Fund to support ongoing relief efforts in the region. Employees who wished to give individually were encouraged to support organizations such as AmeriCares, MercyCorps and the American Red Cross.
