FAQ
What is EdgeTrade?
EdgeTrade is a leading developer of algorithmic and liquidity aggregation and access technologies. Buy- and sell-side firms leverage
EdgeTrade’s market-leading algorithms to locate liquidity, achieve high-quality trade executions and/or meet a trading benchmark.
Who owns EdgeTrade?
Knight acquired EdgeTrade in January 2008 and has been consolidated into Knight Direct, LLC as of August 2008. Knight Direct is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Knight Capital Group, Inc.
How can I access EdgeTrade's algorithms?
Either through Knight Direct, a broker-neutral electronic trading platform covering multiple asset classes, or via major OMS and
trading system providers.
Who uses EdgeTrade’s algorithms?
Buy- and sell-side firms of all sizes, from large asset managers and global investment banks, to regional broker-dealers and hedge
funds. Sell-side firms may use their own direct market connections.
Does EdgeTrade utilize FIX?
Yes, EdgeTrade employs FIX 4.0-4.2 to receive and send new orders and execution reports from a client’s OMS.
How do I get EdgeTrade’s algorithms?
Contact Joe Wald at 212.479.2335 or jwald@knight.com, your EdgeTrade sales representative
or a Knight sales trader.
Why does EdgeTrade propose smart order execution over smart order routing?
EdgeTrade introduced smart order execution in 2005 as the optimal method for securing liquidity in a highly fragmented marketplace.
Smart order execution simultaneously scans the public markets and dark pools and adaptively re-adjusts its targets to where liquidity
resides based upon real-time trading, and historical and proprietary analytics. In contrast, smart order routing takes a more linear,
time-consuming approach to scoping out liquidity.
With so many algorithmic providers selling products, what makes EdgeTrade unique?
Our suite of algorithms originates from the collective experience of EdgeTrade’s quantitative professionals skilled in the market’s
microstructure, as well as from the dynamic feedback from our clients. Therefore, we have a distinct ability and understanding of
what's needed to create algorithmic technologies that enable traders to enhance their performance, whether it's measured by best
execution, a benchmark, TCA or other metrics.
