Follow this timeline to discover some of the highlights—and lowlights—that shaped our modern-day capital markets.       1973 The Chicago Board of Trade establishes the first listed options exchange, the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE). 1982 The stock market begins a new rally, which, with periodic interruptions, continues through the remainder of the 20th century. 1987 The stock market crashes on October 19. The DJIA drops 22.6%, and the Nasdaq Composite Index declines 11.35%. These constitute the largest single-day percentage decreases ever. 1994 Internet trading is launched by K. Aufhauser & Company 1995 In March, Knight is founded to offer high quality trade executions to an initial roundtable of online broker-dealers with rapidly-growing order flow. |
